Gift Aid

Make your gift tax efficient!

Have you considered gift aiding your donation? If you can gift aid your donation, it means that we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated. Please fill in a gift aid declaration here:

Gift Aid Form

This Gift Aid form is used for all donations given directly to the church, where we are aware of the full donor name and address, and where we have a valid form on record. Where a third party is used to collect the donation, the Gift Aid claim is processed by them e.g. payroll giving, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), JustGiving.

Gift Aid allows the congregation (as a registered charity, 236173) to reclaim the tax already paid on your offering. This equates to an increase of 25% on donations (based on current basic rate Income Tax of 20%).

In addition, higher rate or additional rate taxpayers can claim further personal tax relief at 20% or 25% (equating to 25p or 31.25p for every £1 donated), respectively.

Eligibility:

  • Gifts must be your own money and not, for example, the proceeds of a collection.
  • If you have previously submitted a Gift Aid form, please confirm, for your own comfort, that you still pay sufficient income or capital gains tax.

For more information on tax efficient giving, see the HMRC website: https://www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid

St Columba’s Reference Numbers

Anyone can request a unique four digit St Columba’s reference number, to assist us in tracking Gift Aid donations. This is recommended if you frequently donate via Open Plate or bank transfers (rather than set monthly or quarterly standing orders), where the Finance Team may need to match your name, address and Gift Aid declaration form with several separate donations. By using a reference number, it helps to ensure that we have got the correct person/details. If you are not sure whether or not you have one, or if you can’t remember the reference, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call the Church Office and ask to speak to the Finance Team.
