Rev. Barry W. Dunsmore MA BD

Barry Dunsmore

Barry Dunsmore

Barry Dunsmore, our Minister, was born in Glasgow and graduated from The University of Glasgow in Arts and Theology. He served in parishes in Saltcoats and Stirling prior to coming to London in November 2000.

Serving as vice-convenor of the Church of Scotland Ministries Council in Edinburgh, Barry is able to fulfil his commitment to the wider work of the church. This council is responsible for the recruitment, training, and pastoral support of ministers and deacons. Barry has a particular interest in homiletics, congregational development, and homelessness. In London, Barry serves as a trustee of Borderline, a Church of Scotland charity working with homeless and insecurely housed Scots in London.

St. Columba's in London is linked to the Church of Scotland congregation in Newcastle where Barry officiates quarterly in support of the auxiliary minister, The Rev. Dorothy Lunn. In September 2007, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Barry's ordination a book of his sermons was published by St. Andrews Press. All proceeds from the book, Challenge, Comfort, Forgiveness and Welcome - Words to the World at Such a Time as This, will go to support the work of Borderline.

Barry has a particular interest in church and classical music and met his wife Hilda while playing in the same orchestra. Hilda is a gynaecologist at Guys Hospital in Central London. After both graduating from The University of Glasgow they spent time in Kenya, Barry undertaking post-graduate research and Hilda serving at a hospital in Nairobi. The close association between the Church of Scotland and the Presbyterian Church (USA) has allowed Barry regular study opportunities at Princeton Theological Seminary and preaching engagements in New York City. Barry and Hilda have two grown-up children, Jenni and Philip.
