Terms of Reference

Assembly and Presbytery Committee

1.  To discuss reports to the General Assembly and report on those of interest;

2.  To suggest selected reports for discussion by Kirk Session, committees or other groups;

3.  To draft responses to remits for report to Kirk Session;

4.  To receive reports on Presbytery meetings and report to Kirk Session;

5.  To keep up to date with issues facing the Church of Scotland and report to the Kirk Session and congregation,

6.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session.

Fellowship Committee

1.  To be responsible for providing a friendly and hospitable welcome to all;

2.  To sustain and increase the fellowship of the congregation;

3.  To review Elders' Districts continually to ensure all members in the London postal districts have an elder assigned to them,

4.  To sustain and increase communication with adherents and members outwith Elders’ Districts;

5.  To organise rotas of Elders for pre and post service duties and for Christmas and Easter services;

6.  To formulate a draft policy on safeguarding vulnerable adults and thereafter monitor it;

7.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session.

Mission Committee

1.  To guide and support the Congregation's mission “to serve God and His Church, each other and those in need both near and far.” To this end, the Mission Committee will work on behalf of the Kirk Session to:

•  maintain and develop the Congregation's established relationships with projects and organizations in our local community, in the UK and worldwide that support people in need (including Borderline, Christian Aid, Fair Trade, West London Action for Children, West London Churches Homeless Concern);

•  seek out and research new opportunities for the Congregation to use our skills and resources to support those in need and fulfill our commitment to the Christian faith;

•  promote the Church's mission work to the Congregation and encourage participation; and

•  coordinate the main appeals made to the Congregation (Harvest, Advent and Lent).

2.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session.

Nurture Committee

1.  To be responsible to the Kirk Session for the fulfilment of the Mission Statement “lto learn more of God and grow in faith and love”;

2.  To take practical steps to encourage the Kirk Session and the congregation to develop its prayer life;

3.  To foster the Christian education and deepen the faith and understanding of the congregation by arranging a programme of Bible Study and by holding occasional talks (or series of talks or discussion sessions) on aspects of doctrine and their relationship to daily living;

4.  To offer support to the House Groups within the congregation;

5.  To encourage and support the organisations and activities of the congregation offering nurture, and to develop arrangements for the effective nurture of new members and the families of the recently baptised;

6.  To keep abreast of relevant resource material issued by the Church of Scotland and by others;

7.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session.

Worship and Communication Committee

1.  To be responsible to the Kirk Session for aspects of the Services other than the content of worship;

2.  In conjunction with the Minister to liaise with the Director of Music and to be responsible to the Kirk Session for development of the musical life of the Church;

3.  To promote evangelism through overseeing and enhancing communications and publications including the magazine and the website;

4.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session.

Youth Committee

1.  To offer support to existing Youth Groups within the Church (Crèche 0-4 years, Sunday School 4-12 years, Senior Study Group 13-18 years, Young Adults by:

•  Recruitment and retention of teachers/helpers, regular in-service training, and regular review of numbers of teachers/helpers;

•  Helping the Church to foster and maintain a welcoming and well-structured environment where these groups can flourish;

•  Identifying needs of particular groups and endeavouring to meet these needs;

•  Outlining ways to encourage new young people to join/stay within the congregation;

•  Keeping the congregation informed about the various activities of these groups to help foster an inclusive feeling within the Church.

2.  To liaise as appropriate with other Committees of the Kirk Session and to report periodically to the Kirk Session
